EXPO 2020 Dubai. World expos: where innovation meets the future

World expositions have been held since 1851, every five years, serving as global stages for new technologies, inventions, and products. Over recent decades, they have also become powerful platforms for international knowledge exchange and dialogue on today’s major global challenges.

Expo 2020 in the UAE

The choice of the UAE as the host of Expo 2020 was far from accidental. First, it marked the first World Expo ever held in the Middle East. Second, the United Arab Emirates is a remarkable country where sleek skyscrapers rise like oases from the desert sands.

Expo 2020 Dubai itself became a landmark event. Authorities allocated a site equivalent in size to 600 football fields, and record numbers of participants joined — 192 countries, each with its own pavilion built from scratch. The event was designed to attract around 25 million visitors over six months, with roughly 70% of them coming from abroad.
